FIRST LEGO League Jr Peterborough Expo: Post-event Round-up

JoffFringe events, News

What an event!

Last weekend we hosted the first ever FIRST LEGO League Jr expo in Peterborough with great fun had by all – children and adults alike!

The event saw four teams of 6-9 year olds from this region – and one from as far as Watford, present their Aqua Adventure projects to a panel of reviewers. The children worked as teams over several weeks, typically putting in around 20 hours of work to research real-world problems involving water,  design a solution and build a working model using LEGO WeDo 2.0 technology.

As a team of volunteers, we’re grateful to the support we’ve had in enabling us to deliver this event, so we would like to thank:

  • Our main sponsors BGL Group, Anglian Water and the Anglian Water @one Alliance;
  • The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) for running FIRST LEGO League Jr in the UK and for their guidance over the past few months;
  • Allia Future Business Centre for providing the venue;
  • Raising Robots for offering discounted LEGO components to our teams;
  • Reviewers from BGL, Anglian Water, Opportunity Peterborough and Digital People in Peterborough;
  • Team coaches, teachers and family members for supporting their children throughout the projects – and for getting them to the event on a Saturday!
  • and of course, all the children for taking part and showing us their engineering skills.
