Monday 19th February
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
As part of Peterborough STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Festival 2018, Digital People in Peterborough, in collaboration with The Institute of Engineering and Technology and Allia Future Business Centre, are delighted to announce the FIRST LEGO League Junior Expo in Peterborough.
Peterborough’s third Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) festival will be held later this year encompassing a series of events inspired by Ada Lovelace Day.
With both @one Alliance Anglian Water and BGL Group already signed up as top-tier sponsors, the festival’s free-to-attend main event will feature activities that will include coding workshops, interactive science experiments, engineering and technology demonstrations, inspirational talks and presentations from enthusiasts and professionals working in STEM.
Through the partnership with Ada Lovelace Day, one of Peterborough STEM Festival’s core aims is to encourage girls and young women into STEM careers.
In addition to the main programme held in October, Peterborough STEM Festival will also be hosting a LEGO Expo, an exciting STEM based activity, for 6-9 year olds. Any group of children can form a team (maximum of six children per team), whether they’re from a local primary school, scouting group, code club or just friends looking for a fun challenge.
This year’s theme is Aqua Adventure with teams researching the topic, constructing a motorised LEGO model and then presenting their ideas on a Show Me poster. FIRST® LEGO® League Jr. rapidly develops teamwork, design, programming and communication skills, but the most important thing is that it is great fun and makes the children really enjoy STEM subjects.
Taking place in Peterborough on Saturday 19th May, at Allia Future Business Centre, registration is now open for local teams to enrol, learn and compete but most important of all – have fun!

About Peterborough STEM Festival
Our mission is to engage, inspire, and develop children and adults, and work with parents and educators to inspire today’s youth into becoming tomorrow’s science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) innovators. In particular, we strive to encourage and highlight what’s new, unusual or surprising; to inspire by giving participants the opportunity to obtain hands-on experience; and to enhance interest by providing examples and introductions to role models.
