Code of conduct for Peterborough STEM Festival (referred as the Festival).
This code of conduct is based on the Citizen Code of Conduct. By attending the Festival as a speaker, sponsor, volunteer, exhibitor, or visitor, you agree to abide by this code of conduct, and cooperate with organisers who enforce it.
Short version
“The Festival is dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion. We do not tolerate harassment of event participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any festival venue, including talks. Participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the event at the discretion of the event organizers.”
Long Version
Unacceptable Behavior
The following behaviors are considered harassment and are unacceptable within our community:
- Violence, threats of violence or violent language directed against another person.
- Sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist or otherwise discriminatory jokes and language.
- Posting or displaying sexually explicit or violent material.
- Posting or threatening to post other people’s personally identifying information (“doxing”).
- Personal insults, particularly those related to gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, or disability.
- Inappropriate photography or recording.
- Inappropriate physical contact; you should have someone’s consent before touching them.
- Unwelcome sexual attention. This includes, sexualized comments or jokes; inappropriate touching, groping, and unwelcomed sexual advances.
- Deliberate intimidation, stalking or following (online or in person).
- Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behavior.
- Sustained disruption of community events, including talks and presentations.
- No weapons of any kind, alcohol, or drugs are allowed at Festival venues.
If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of the Festival team immediately. Festival team members can be identified as they’ll be wearing branded t-shirts.
The Festival team will be happy to help participants contact venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the Festival. We value your attendance.
Lost Children Policy
A Meeting Point for lost children or vulnerable adults will available at the event, which will be located next to the reception desk at the main entrance of the building. Please notify a volunteer, event organiser or steward if you become separated from a family member.
We expect participants to follow these rules at the Festival and workshop venues and festival-related social events.
