Note – there is no public viewing of the event, only registered teams, their grown-ups and siblings will be permitted in the expo.

How it works

The concept

FIRST LEGO League Jr is an international engineering and computing programme – run in the UK by the IET, based around team work, problem solving and fun!

Groups of up to six 6-9 year olds research a project (Mission Moon for this season) to identify potential real-world problems, design a solution and build a LEGO model to demonstrate the solution.  Projects will typically be worked on during school LEGO clubs, as part of Scouting / Guiding groups or with friends / family outside of school hours.

At it’s core, the LEGO model uses LEGO WeDo 2.0 components which develop children’s programming skills through a computer or tablet-based drag-and-drop programming language.

The Expo presentation day

On Saturday 30th March 2019, teams come together to present their projects to a panel of reviewers to demonstrate their efforts working as a team and sharing their progress.  There is no right or wrong way to construct the LEGO model and awards are available in a number of categories.

Every FLLJR team will need the LEGO WeDo 2.0 (approx £140 RRP*) and the current season’s FLLJR Inspire Set which is included as part of registration costs (£40*).

* Additional funding support may be available for school teams – please ask for more information.

Registration process

If you are new to FIRST LEGO League Jr and don’t yet have a LEGO WeDo 2.0 kit, we recommend you register your interest with ourselves first so that we can discuss your options.

Registration costs are paid directly to the IET who will send out your Inspire Set for the current season along with materials for the team.

We have partnered with Raising Robots and have negotiated a discounted rate for the WeDo 2.0 kit for teams registered with the Peterborough expo.  If you already have the WeDo 2.0 then go ahead and register with the IET today!
